Kyukushin karate is a martial art, where the practitioners use the full contact karate style. This means in this stand up form of fighting the practitioners uses techniques including sparring or the free form of fighting. The knock down of the opponent is allowed in this style of karate, so that he cannot rise for specific period. The training curriculum for this fighting form is generally based on three basic elements. These elements include the technique which is known as “Kihon”, the several forms called “Kata” and the last is the sparring also known as “Kumite”.
Thus, sometime we refer the training system as the three K’s due to these three Japanese words. The Kihon includes the nurturing of the right spirit along with the learning of the different techniques. It basically comprises the basics of various moves such as kicks or other strikes. It also includes exercises in order to strengthen the body parts. In “Kata” different moves in different patterns are being practiced either alone or with multiple partners. The last one is “Kumite”, which means sparring. In this particular session of the training course the participants applies what they have learnt during the previous two phases. It is the free form of fighting style in which many rules and disciplines are to be followed.
Just like all the other arts of this kind it also has the grading system. In Kyukushin the order of the belts are white, red, blue, yellow, green, brown and black. The belts or the grading system actually signifies how much a student has developed during training, starting from the white belt, which ends at black belts on finishing the training.
