Introduction to Kickboxing
The ancient martial art of kickboxing which is now being followed and practiced on a very large scale, by people in all parts of the globe, as a self defense as well as fitness training method, has techniques that bear a striking resemblance to boxing. The only difference is that here, both hands as well as legs are used in order to strike the opponent. The use of this form can be made for serious combat purposes or for general physical training. Different versions of this sport are followed in different corners of the world. However, the two main schools of kickboxing are the Japanese as well as the American.
The origin of this style of martial art took place in Japan during the 1950’s by a well known boxer named Osamu Noguchi. He was especially fascinated by the Muay Thai form of boxing which was then being followed in Thailand. Hence, he introduced kickboxing, which is a mixture of Muay Thai, karate, taekwondo as well as boxing. Noguchi also came up with a Kickboxing Association before he died in 1967 which helped in extending the reach of this martial art form to other parts of the world.
