Introduction to Jeet Kune do
Jeet Kune Do is one of the most misunderstood arts in the world today. It is one of 3 arts that was developed and founded by Martial Arts Legend SiGung Bruce Lee. Jeet Kune Do is neither a style nor a system, but a process of personal growth and discovery as compiled by the research and experimentation that led to its creation.
Jeet Kune Do means "Intercepting Fist Way" and is called “The Way of the Intercepting Fist". In this defination "Jeet " stands for intercepting, "Kune" means fist and "Do’" means way. Jeet Kune Do is a complete mixture of the four ranges of combat: Kicking, Boxing, Trapping, and Grappling. If you remember Bruce Lee’s movies and think you know what it is, the chance of being wrong are pretty high. Bruce Lee’s art must not be confused with the flashy moves he did in his movies, or TV shows. Behind the screen, his personal art involved a complex training system that involved the body and the spirit to develop what he refered to as a "Scientific method of street fighting".
Many people think that any mixture of techniques that works for them is JKD, This not true. There is a special and specific systematic method to aproach JKD training.
Jeet Kune Do is not just a fighting method, but a blend of core techniques, tatics, training, fighting and combative concepts backed by scientific principles, research, experimentation that transends his philosophy.
