Introduction to Goju Ryu Karate
There are a lot of karate forms that are extensively followed and taught all over the world today. However, the one style of karate that still remains closest to the authentic karate teachings is Goju Ryu Karate. This form of martial art was founded by Chojun Miyagi (1888-1953). After spending enormous time training in China, he returned to Okinawa in order to formulate this very karate form. Ever since, this form has reached the length and breadth of the globe. In Japanese, the meaning of the term Goju is hard-soft wherein Go means hard, while Ju means soft. Ryu refers to School.
Being one of the four major original Okinawan forms of karate, Goju Ryu Karate is not just a sporty school of martial art, but also a very effective technique of fighting and self defense. As the name suggests, this form of karate involves both hard as well as soft techniques of fighting. There are also interesting variations in the hand and foot movements, which are performed either in circular or linear fashion.
