Tahtib
Stick fencing (or Egyptian stick fighting or Tahtib) continues to be a popular activity and form of entertainment in North Africa and in particular Egypt. Tahtib is not registered as an official sports or martial arts event in Egypt.
This is an ongoing controversial issue as there are unofficial contests in the rural areas of the country and in the upper region of Egypt. These contests are reported as having issues relating to safety as head or limb injuries are common during the unprotected fighting. At the time of writing there are no officially listed organizations or clubs specifically for Tahtib.
