Taekwondo may be subdivided into the International Federation of Taekwondo (ITF) and the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). The headquarters of the ITF are located in Pyongyang, North Korea. The ITF was founded in 1966 by General Choi Hong Hi. There are a number of Taekwondo Organizations, the most influential being listed here.
The Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA) later became known as Kukkiwon. In 1973, the WTF was formed. This is based in Seoul, South Korea. WTF sparring is recognised as an Olympic sport.

It falls under the umbrella of the British Taekwondo Council (BTC). They have approximately 450 schools in Great Britain and 15000 plus licensed members.
