Been having big discussions

Been having big discussions on MMA, I know a few cage warriors, the age old question should it be a stand alone art, wanted to join the group to follow technique and what other say.

The question I would have

The question I would have with that is....how could it stand alone when it clearly takes skill sets from other arts and train them distinctively. For example...you can train Muay Thai and BJJ...and be mma. Another at the same time can train from kickboxing and wrestling and also do mma. While another can train capoeira, bjj and maybe some judo and still be an mma fighter, or even boxing and grappling. it can go on and on. In my opinion then...mma is the concept of training or blending more than one combat sport to compete in a anything goes cage fight. To make it its own stand alone style then you would then have to have different styles under the mma title because there are so many different blends that one can train and compete in mma. Personally, I don't think making it a stand alone is necessary or important...however, I do believe it could function as a stand alone. Truth be told...new styles are created by blending different arts every day...the dilemma is that mma has no set style to blend, therefore you would be able to call anything mma and get away with it....
What do you guys think of that opinion?
