A very strange take on Ip man, the trailer is a bit like watching the chinese matrix... ill wait until theres more scenes available to make a judgement.. but for now it doesnt spark any real interest..
Its a very strange film... With some time travelling and stuff. Jackie chan is actually good as he usually is. I think hes let down by some nonsense storyline points and a huge fight scene that is just too unrealistic... but overall it is ok actually.
not a lot of info floating about on this movie. But as a fan of donnie yen it will be interesting to see his take on the monkey king. A very common chinese story, it might actually be something a little obscure to western cinema goers but definitely worth a watch in my opinion.
This was one of those classic movies I had only read about. When it finally came out on dvd i had to have it. I was not disappointed. Chen Kuan Tai plays Ma Yung-Cheng who works a labourer with his best friend and sleeps at a hostel for poor workers. He is also good at kung fu which gets him involved with a lot of unsavoury characters along the way. He gains respect after defeating a Russian fighter and wishes to be like Tan Wei (played by David Chiang), a gang boss who like Ma started with nothing and now is one of the top bosses in town. Ma's and Tan's involvement with the "Four Champions" leads Ma to a bloody and brutal final confrontation with the "Four Champions", their Boss and ALL their henchmen. What follows is a protracted battle with knives, axes, feet, fists and furniture as Ma battles for his life and to get revenge for the death of his friend Tan. Don't expect a happy ending. The choreography was very good and different to Shaws later MA style. It seemed to have a grittier edge and the ferocity of Chen Kuan Tai in action is a sight to behold. Recommended
This movie is definitely an 80's classic and can be watch over and over. Such a fun movie. The story is good, the fight sequences are good, it's funny all through out. I wish Taimak would have done more martial arts movies. He's a really talented martial artist. Anyway, they were talking about a sequel or either a remake to this movie (personally, I don't think one is needed.) Also Ernie Reyes Jr. was a little kid in this movie who show cased his skills in a scene towards the end.
I moght check this out purly as I'm a curious cat.
It looks ok this movie and i might qive it a go!
Another 'Lee' Classic for afficionados!
AND.............it has Nick Nolte in it too!! One of my favourite actors of all time and very underated!
I had to give this movie a 10 for the story alone! Though it's not a story we haven't seen before... I think it was well told and brilliantly done by using the MMA format to do it (rather than another boxing movie with the same story retold). It was touching. The fights in this movie were also good, but the focus is on the story more than the martial arts and the action. It's worth the watch
