Jeet Kune Do was established with "levels" not Belt ranks.
If your in the United States there is no belts, no uniforms. SiGung Bruce did not do that, it is a myth.If you are overseas, some people use belts..but what are they teaching, you must know.
Jeet Kune Do is one of the most misunderstood martial arts.
Some only even teach a part of it and call it JKD. Do your homework.
SiGung Lee wanted his art to be special, "not commercialized" ( like many have done).
The JKD torch was passed to 1 man,Tuhon Dan Inosanto. He has ensured that Sigung's legacy be carried by highly trained & skilled practitioners, complete in all ranges of combat.
In the early days after Bruce Lee's death, Sifu Inosanto had made several Honorary instructors, with the intent they would help teach classes and continue their training. Many had left and not continued to learn the material and thus Do Not have all of the art.
It is important to remember that Bruce Lee had let Sifu Inosanto teach a Very small portion of the material to the class.
Those that left do not have all of the material.
After the new school was opened, all the material was taught , it is these students that have the material that can carry on All the arts in full detail.
A new rank structure was made to show the high level of skill needed in the full spectrum of JKD.
First you find a true JKD instructor, one that is under a direct legacy of the late Sigung Lee, who holds credentials in all the arts, not just part of it.
If you are following the rank structure used that covers All the arts Jun Fan, Jeet Kune Do and Tao of Jeet Kune Do.
Then you begin your journey , if your instructor has all the material ,there are 3 levels each of Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced before you are even considered for an instructor level.
This is not an art that easy to learn. Your Beginner Level One will be reviewed after 1 year of training at a Minimum number of hours. ( maybe 200-300)
So at Beginner Level 2 you are at what "some systems" call a black belt
The rank structure continues to grow at each level of proficiency getting harder and harder.
To become a full instructor in JKD may take 20 years.
"Jeet Kune Do is not meant for everyone of 1,000 people, only 3 may make it to instructor level"
