What do you think of Japenese Style Gradings in Chinese Martial Arts.
After a discussion with my Sifu i've decided not to have gradings anymore i'm going to teach it the way it was taught to me.

Hi Wing Chun, so how are you grading now? Do you have any kind of system in place?
Did you use the sash system and what do you think about this system?
IMO, the grading system as used in Japanese martial arts such as Karate, Jujutsu, Judo etc is not suitable for use in the Chinese systems.
The grading system is a rigid, linear form of progression. The Chinese martial arts develop from one seed, which bares a shoot and branches. There is so much more going on than simply learning techniques. There are principles and theories that cannot be linearised. They come from personal experience and understanding.
These principles apply across all techniques within a style, and can sometimes take years to perfect. How can one apply a set scale of progression to such a personal developmental process?
