Yes this is a good way to surprise the opponent and create an opening. When knocking the guard down it is a good idea to make sure it goes down and not down and out to the sides as a good hooker will certainly take advantage of this as I have found out from personal experience from my master.

I have a really good application for a reply to someone knocking the guard down it involves reeling silk pushing hands, I will have to film it one day to share with you. Although you probably have a few tricks of your own I'm sure lol

Thanks for posting, I enjoyed watching the Southern Mantis. The Wing Chun video does show the art in a different light, especially the issuing force and the receiving force(push). The first part is a very good example of beating someone to the punch, well in this case a kick. The push on the second demo comes up through the body and is strong, I would say is helped by having something to push against being offered. This would be impossible if the other guy was relaxed in his stance. The guy being pushed on the scales looks impressive although the pusher is pushing through his shoulders and not from the root to the waist to the hands, the floor also may be a little slippy .However he does bend his legs into a stance and should really be able to push the lighter looking master. He must have made himself very heavy with excellent technique and years of practice.Nice one.

I have been looking at wing chun quite a bit [videos on you tube] and have found a number of excellent videos where the instructor breaks down the move and the flow of it. Some of these videos feature the master on the scales instructing students on aspects of wing chun and the use of force.
I am intrigued by different styles use of force, uprooting and leverage and often see similiar concepts over different styles. The first master reminds me of my instructor who moves in the same manner and radiates the same look of martial power

Yes some teachers do have that look about them and with some it is more hidden. You kind of know when it is there!
