    Default Drunken Kung Fu:

Swaying and staggering movements imitate a drunk person in a similar way that other styles imitate the movements of animals. The style is also based upon deception, because the opponent will often underestimate you, and in striking when your opponent least expects it. Many different schools of kung fu have a drunken form, or incorporate elements of this style.

Default Where to learn Drunken Kung Fu?

Drunken isn't a style all to its self, it is part of a system that also incorrporates other styles of the system. Most times Drunken is an advanced level (also know as bending grass, or ocean waves, to seperate its self from being in a drunken stupor) only taught after the student proves themself profecient in the basics (some schools won't even tell you there advanced styles such as drunken, buda palm, or mantis). Kung fu styles that deffinantly don't have it include Hung Gar, Wing chun, and Hung Fa Yi. Stay northern kung fu, you'll get luckier.

On the contrary, Zui Quan (Drunkard Boxing) is indeed an art in itself.

Very true. A very uncommon but effective martial art. Zui Quan is in our martial arts styles database, although little is actually known about the style. Here's the link: Zui Quan

In this famous Qigong routine you must 'become' a Monkey, using light, swift movements searching for fruit to pick it using its hook-like paws (2). Thus, throw inhibition to the winds, scamper about on all fours and search for imaginary fleas. Turn your head quizzically from side-to-side (Monkey deep-set eye sockets necessitate such head movements due to restricted peripheral vision) and enter (rationally) into the spirit of things. This is an essential pre-requisite of Animal Kung Fu and Qigong for only thus can their subtlety be truly appreciated.

My limit understanding of "drunken" is in essence its a method of creating unpredictable and unorthodox techniques. Therefore any style or system can have a drunken variety as it essentially a way of keeping the opponent guessing as many attacks can come from strange angles and unpredictable positions.

However obviously training will be more efficient with several pints of your favorite ale down your throat. :-)

Choy Li Fut also has a Drunken form. Then again, CLF has northern and southern elements in it.

Mike - you always find great videos! Thanks.
