    Default Hello to everyone

I just wanted to say hello, I am new to the site and from the U.S.
I study a number of arts from Jeet Kune Do to the Filipino Arts and many in between.I love cross training, teaching and learning new martial arts.

This looks like a nice site, I look forward to spending more time here.

    Kevin,

Martial arts is not about jealousy - as Sifu Russell often says, train hard!

You can get to a high level in martial arts if you put your mind to it. How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

    Kevin, Who is this guy?

Considering your new to martial arts, why are you restricting yourself to not doing styles that you want simply because you don't have this teacher?

I understand your point about accreditation though in Jeet Kune Do. Who is this guy in Doncaster? Does he have direct lineage to Bruce Lee / Dan Inasanto? If not, what makes him so special?

    Kevin,

First of all,Ashley is correct, there is no need to be jealous. I can understand if you have a desire to do something that may seem out of reach, but then that may change in the future.Since we all live in the present, just put that desire into what you are now studying and become just as good in it.

I studied many arts before finding my way into JKD, as a matter of fact, I even delayed my entry to study something else.It made me a better instructor ( and still does) by having trained in different arts.

Congradulations on studying Judo, it is a good art. Many people do not know that before creating JKD,Sigung Bruce Lee also studied it as well.I myself even trained in it when I was in the military, and a few of my instructors have done it.I hope you enjoy it as well.

Which path or art one takes in studying the martial arts is not as important as to how one applies themselves into the art.To study any art takes dedication and that carries over into many positive attributes in your life as well. That is what is important, and that is what one should seek.

As far as being "only" a white belt, that just means that you are a beginer in a new and fascinating art. You have taken the first step in your own personal growth and will continue to broaden your horizons as you learn more and continue your journey into the martial arts.

I myself still put on a white belt from time to time and start learning new arts.I have not done any Judo since the 1980's.Some day,you will outrank me in Judo.
In the end,it only means that people study different arts, and for different reasons. Some can not study what they want, and then some find that once they become involved in another, they like it and do not want to move on.
It is all good if it improves you as an individual.

As far as finding someone in England, I have never been there ,so I would need a name ( in Private , Not in this forum).
The thing about JKD, is,there are many "branches" some do not have all the info so it is good to see ( as Kevin Z said) where the lineage is, AND also to what extent their training was and what it entailed. (If that is confusing,I have a JKD group here that can help answer those questions)

It is good that you have an interest in JKD, in the mean time put that passion into your Judo , and strive to be your best.

    Good luck & Train hard
