Default Different approaches to partner work.

I was thinking about partner drills used in different martial arts where two people work together to develop skills. I don't mean free sparring but more towards set drills. I invite you on this thread to talk about or show the rest of us what they are and why they are used.

On this video students practice set Tui Shou drills (push hands). Here they give two examples of partner drills; "Four Directions" and "Reeling Silk" . These drills develop listening and following skills, coordination alongside the skill of redirecting force. It is done in a relaxed way but the mind has to be alert and focussed. You learn to feel the movements of your partner. These drills can be considered a bridge between the Tai Chi hand form and learning to apply self defence techniques. I will look forward to examples of partner work form other styles of martial arts.

In this video, we are looking at the opening movements from the Yang style Tai Chi form, and then working on a drill that trains a possible combat application of the Ward Off motion that we are looking at.

Nice example James and thanks masterkung for another example of partner drills. I am looking forward to the next contribution from any combat system.

Yes I see but although very nice (throws) I would consider this to be practice of applications, is there a link between the two which is really what this thread is about?

I have to say I loved the video, Jacky but i'm a bit concerned as to whether this has anything to do with this thread? Please keep posts on the line of topic!

Another example where it is combined with conditioning work on the body. Note the picture on the wall, this is the old man who appears near the end of the last video, the revered ip sui
