I remember in the book "Jacqueline" about a female SOE agent she mentioned the training supplied by two elderly gentlemen (Fairbairn & Sykes). The training they were given was so blood thirsty they were nicknamed the "Unholy Two" by their students. IIRC
according to the wiki article fairbairn was in over 600 non-training fights and was covered in knife scars.........his nickname was dangerous dan.......I mean that is pretty awesome........I just have this mental image of an understated british gent in a bowler hat and pinstriped suit (i don't know why) yet being the most deadly man alive
- empty cup.I just have this mental image of an understated british gent in a bowler hat
Add to the OLD. Rex Applegate, body guard to President Roosevelt, told the story of how he missed judged Fairbain - judging a book by its cover. Applegate was a bear of a man, you see him at Roosevelt side in many documentary clips (holding him up to hide how crippled by illness he was). He suffered when he didn't believe an old guy could do anything, after he'd got up off the floor a few times, an realized how dead he could have been. He became Fairbains devoted student.
I always love the idea of the innocent and frail looking old man who can kick everyones arse.
