Art of war by Sun Tzu and Miyamoto Musashi's book of 5 rings. Every Martial artists should read these two.
One other book I would recommend but is more of a biography is American Shaolin By Matthew Polly. it's a great story and talks a lot about the Shaolin and their way of life.
Book of Five Rings is very good! It is about the strategies of Miyamoto Musahi, who - if you didn't know, was the greatest Samurai in their history!!! Excellent reading!!!
Also, "Warrior Guards the Mountain" - the new book by Alex Kozma.
I'd recommend The Martial Arts of Renaissance Europe by Prof Sydney Anglo. It's a bit dry and possibly a little out of date, but it has been the definitive text on European Martial Arts since it was published.
I'd also recommend English Martial Arts by Terry Brown. It is split into two sections, one on the history of English Martial Arts which is brilliant. And one on how to do a few of the techniques which is extremely basic at best. It is however worth it's weight in gold for the first section.

Yes it's a great book I remember one of the ideas about not using the same technique more than twice in a row, I saw a Tai Chi fighter (I won't mention his name" twice rush in with a succession of successful punches in a full contact San Shou contest against a hard style Kung Fu fighter. He tried it a third time to be kicked very hard in the solar plexus absolutely destroying his match.
If you are interested in the self protection side of martial arts then I'd recommend Geoff Thompson's "Dead or Alive".
Yes great stuff about the fight or flight response by someone who has experienced it many times. I do think knowledge of this and how to deal with it should be incorporated into any true self defence system, if not change teacher or change system. A book everyone should read at least once.
Another good read is a book called "Nei Jia Quan "edited by Jess O'Brien -Blue Snake Books. It has discussions with quite a few internal martial artists discussing Tai Chi, Ba Gua and Xing Yi.
