Ip Man

Ip Man (葉繼問, Yeji Q) was the first ever Master to teach Wing Chun Kung Fu.  He was born in Foshan, China on 1st October 1893 but moved to Hong Kong in 1949 and began teaching Wing Chun in 1950. He is reknowned as being the former teacher of Bruce Lee. He passed away in Hong Kong on 2nd December 1972 at the age of 79.

Ip Man

Ip Man, born into a wealthy family was firstly name Ip Kai Man, but it was not until 1906 at the age of 13 he took of the practice of the Martial Arts style Wing Chun. He was taught at the family Ancestral Temple by  Chan Wah Shun (陳華順). However, Wah Shun was too old to teach Ip Man on a regular basis and so instructed Ng Chung Sok (吳仲素) to train Ip Man the Wing Chun techniques. Wah Shun was to die three years later in 1909 with the wishes of Chung sok to continue training Ip Man after his death.

A legend indeed! Thanks for sharing. Also, I recommend the movie Ip Man to anyone who hasn't seen it. I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate, however it is a great move celebrating the life of the legendary Ip Man.
